At an elevation of 1703 feet above sea level, Jewett is the Alpine Valley of Greene County.  First settled in 1784, the town itself was formed in 1849 from the towns of Lexington and Hunter.  Set deep within the Catskill Park, Jewett’s 50.5 square miles is home to just over 900 full-time residents and a significant number of second homeowners. Recent years have seen the development of sustainable grass-fed beef herds, and small specialty manufacturing.
