Those attending the Greene County Chamber of Commerce Annual Gala, held on Thursday, June 9th, at Windham Mountain Resort, witnessed the 2016 Small Business of the Year awarded to Field Goods, LLC .  “This company with a massive reach and mission has been connecting small upstate New York Farms with local communities for the past 5 years; enabling consumers to obtain farm-fresh, in-season produce through a subscription service that delivers to both workplaces and community centers” cited board member Karl Heck.

Mansion + Reed, A Place for People by the River in Coxsackie, NY — June 1, 2016

The ‘Lower’ Village of Coxsackie is at the base of the Mansion Street hill adjacent to the Hudson River.  The Post office is there.  So is the main office of the National Bank of Coxsackie.  The Heermance Memorial Library sits at the head of Reed Street.  The area is lined with historic brick buildings, with Sbarboro serving Breakfast and Lunch, and the Downtown Bistro catering to the later crowd.  These places draw people in to their own establishments, but there’s not much to keep them once they’ve done what they came to do.

The Nuts & Bolts of Starting a Business in East Durham, NY — May 10, 2016

John Quirk and his wife Suzanne are no strangers to running a business.  Life-long Greene County residents, they have, over the years operated Lawyer’s General Store and The Shamrock House among others.  After purchasing the commercial property located at 2373 Rout 145 in East Durham, NY, they set to work to restore and rebrand the plaza that once contained the iconic Greene County eatery, Hans & Gretel’s.  Throughout the restoration process, John came to the realization that he had to drive at least 10 miles to pick up ordinary supplies like paint brushes, rollers, pipe connectors, and fasteners.  East Durham had no local hardware store.
